Dictation for medical, legal, military and aviation work.
Talk DAT! (often written TalkDAT) is AI dictation for Windows and Mac by Knight AI+AV. Both desktop versions are in public beta. Install Windows from the Microsoft Store, or download the notarized Mac beta for Apple silicon.
Four industry vocabulary packs ship inside the app: military, medical, legal and aviation. 1,399 curated terms in all. Switch yours on with one click in Settings, and the acronyms, drug names and terms of art of your field are spelled the way your field writes them, starting with your first dictation. It is made for doctors writing clinical notes, lawyers drafting memos, and pilots and operators who use a lot of acronyms.
Dictate clinical notes with the right drug names.
The Medical pack ships inside Talk DAT! with 400 curated terms covering medications, anatomy, procedures and charting shorthand. One click in Settings turns it on. Dictate the visit while it is fresh, and Executive mode turns it into a clean note for you to review.
"uh so blood pressure was one forty over ninety, started her on metoprolol twenty five milligrams daily, um follow up in two weeks and get a lipid panel before that"
Blood pressure measured 140/90. The patient was started on metoprolol 25 mg daily. Follow-up is scheduled in two weeks, with a lipid panel to be completed beforehand.
Illustrative dictation. Executive mode checks that numbers are unchanged and can reject an unsafe rewrite; a professional should still review the result.
About privacy. Talk DAT! is not a HIPAA-certified service and offers no BAA today. After you download a local model, speech is turned into text on the computer and sent nowhere. Your recent recordings are also kept on that computer so they can be recovered. Covered entities must evaluate the complete workflow against their own obligations.
Dictate letters and case notes.
The Legal pack ships inside Talk DAT! with 300 legal terms, including the Latin ones. One click in Settings turns it on. Dictate a case note between calls or a letter between meetings, then review the Executive result before using it under your signature.
"okay so opposing counsel wants to push the deposition to the fourteenth, we are not waiving privilege on the email thread, um and remind them discovery closes on the thirtieth"
Opposing counsel has requested moving the deposition to the 14th. We are not waiving privilege on the email thread. Please remind them that discovery closes on the 30th.
Illustrative dictation. Protected-detail checks can reject an unsafe change; verify dates and figures before use.
Local mode reduces the number of systems involved. After the model is downloaded, speech recognition stays on the computer. Recent recordings are kept there so they can be played back or recovered. Legal teams must still review device security, retention, backups, and their own privilege obligations.
Dictate reports with the right acronyms.
The Military pack is the largest in the app: 400 curated acronyms, designations and terms. One click in Settings turns it on. Dictate the report the way you would say it aloud, and Executive mode formats it for the record.
"so log it, convoy departs the FOB at zero six hundred, MEDEVAC is on standby, um and I need the SITREP to the S3 by seventeen hundred"
The convoy departs the FOB at 0600 with MEDEVAC on standby. The SITREP is due to the S3 by 1700.
Illustrative dictation. Times and unit designations pass through as spoken.
Talk DAT! holds no government accreditation and claims none. After model setup, Local speech recognition runs on the machine. That architecture does not by itself authorize classified or controlled use; organizations must validate the device, software, retention, and operating environment against their own rules.
Dictate writeups and incident reports.
The Aviation pack ships inside Talk DAT! with 299 curated terms across phraseology, systems and procedures. One click in Settings turns it on. Squawk writeups, incident reports and ops notes come out clean and correctly spelled.
"um write up the squawk, the number two altimeter is reading about eighty feet off, we held short of two seven left, and the NOTAM has the ILS out until friday"
Squawk: the number two altimeter reads approximately 80 feet off. We held short of Runway 27L. The NOTAM lists the ILS as out of service until Friday.
Illustrative dictation. Verify runway identifiers and readings against the source before filing.
Incident writeups and safety reports are sensitive by nature. After model setup, the Local route sends the capture nowhere. Recent recordings stay on the computer until they are replaced or cleared. Review the finished record before filing it.
Compliance and certifications.
After setup, Local speech recognition runs on the computer and sends the capture nowhere. The app keeps your recent recordings on the computer. Talk DAT! has no server that receives your audio or text. If you add your own key for a supported provider, that request goes from your machine straight to the provider under your account. The current direct Windows EXE and portable ZIP publish SHA-256 checksums and a machine-readable build receipt.
SOC 2. We have not completed a SOC 2 audit and do not claim one. We do follow many of the practices it checks: least-privilege access, encrypted connections, scoped service accounts, and checksummed releases with receipts.
HIPAA. Talk DAT! is not a HIPAA-certified service and offers no BAA. Local processing can reduce exposure, but regulated organizations must assess the entire system and workflow.
Recordings kept on your computer. There is no permanent audio archive, but your recent recordings are kept on this PC so a crash does not lose a long dictation. They stay on the computer, only a limited number are kept, and you can play them back, transcribe them again or clear them from History at any time.
Executive: formal writing from rough speech.
Executive is the writing style for formal, professional text. It can reorganize what you said, remove filler, and check that numbers are unchanged before pasting. If a rewrite looks unsafe, it falls back to a lighter cleanup, but always review professional work.
"okay so basically Q3 came in at one point two million which is up eight percent, um I think we push the launch to October, and I need headcount numbers from ops by friday"
Q3 revenue came in at $1.2 million, up 8 percent. I recommend moving the launch to October. Ops is asked to provide headcount numbers by Friday.
Illustrative example. Protected-detail checks reduce risk; verify every material fact and figure before use.
Chill, the default style, is one click away in the Talk DAT! menu. It keeps your own wording and just tidies it. Switch between the two whenever you like.
Free for teams too.
Talk DAT! is free for teams and organizations too, with nothing to buy per person. The four optional industry packs are included in the desktop app. For rollout questions, write to Build@KnightAIAV.com.
