Product Terms
Effective September 23, 2026
These terms govern Talk DAT!, its optional account, and the official software distributed by Knight AI+AV LLC. Installing or using Talk DAT!, or creating an account, means you accept these terms and the End User License Agreement included with the installer, which says the same things.
Who you are contracting with
Talk DAT! is published by Knight AI+AV LLC, identified as the publisher in the current Windows signing certificate and located in Sacramento, California. Written legal notices and requests for the company's postal notice address go to Build@KnightAIAV.com.
Talk DAT! is free
Talk DAT! is free to download and use. There is no paid plan, nothing renews, and nothing in the app bills you. Knight does not ask for payment details. If Knight ever offers something paid, it will be a separate, clearly priced offer that you would have to choose. If you bring your own provider key, that provider's charges and terms are between you and that provider.
Your licence
You may install and use the official Talk DAT! downloads on devices you own or control, for personal use or inside your organisation, on as many of those devices as you like, and pass copies on unmodified. Talk DAT!'s source code is open source under the Apache License, Version 2.0, and nothing in these terms limits what that licence lets you do with it, including modifying and redistributing it. The Talk DAT! name, logo, Pill artwork and Knight Display typeface are Knight's trademarks and are not part of that licence, so a modified build must carry another name. Third-party components remain under their own licences, which ship with the product, and nothing here restricts the rights those licences grant.
The optional account
You do not need an account to use Talk DAT!. If you create one, sign in with an email address you control or with Sign in with Apple, keep access to that address, and do not share the account. You can delete it at any time from the account panel on this website, or by writing to Build@KnightAIAV.com. The Privacy Notice says what the account stores.
Acceptable use
Do not use Talk DAT! to break the law, to invade someone's privacy, or to infringe intellectual-property rights. Do not attack, probe, or overload the account service, create accounts in bulk or by automation, try to reach another person's account, or get around the service's limits. Knight may suspend or close an account used that way.
Recording other people
Talk DAT! is built to transcribe your speech. If you use it where other people can be heard, including a meeting, a call, or a shared room, recording and transcribing them may require their consent where you are. Several US states, including California, and many countries outside it require every party to agree. You are responsible for obtaining that consent. Knight does not obtain it for you and cannot know when it is needed.
Your content and providers
What you dictate is yours, and you are responsible for it. It stays on your device; Knight does not receive it. If you add a key for a speech or writing provider, requests on that route go from your device to that provider and are governed by its terms and billing, not by Knight.
Regulated data
Talk DAT! is a general-purpose dictation tool and is not sold as a compliance product. Knight never receives your dictation, so no Business Associate Agreement is needed with us. You must still not send protected health information, cardholder data, or other data you are legally required to safeguard through it. If you need a BAA, contact Build@KnightAIAV.com before dictating anything regulated; one does not exist today.
Local and bring-your-own-provider modes keep your speech and text off Knight's servers, but they do not make the device compliant. Talk DAT! writes transcripts, a searchable history, and short recovery recordings to your user profile without encrypting them, and it relies on your operating system account for protection. Where you handle regulated data, securing the machine, its backups, and its disposal is yours.
Knight does not claim HIPAA, SOC 2, or any similar certification for Talk DAT!, and the optional PII redaction setting is a convenience filter, not de-identification.
Availability and warranties
Talk DAT! is a public beta. Features may be added, changed, or withdrawn, and the software or the account service may be unavailable at times. The software is provided as is and as available, without warranties of any kind, to the maximum extent allowed by law. Speech recognition and automated formatting can be wrong; review important text before relying on it.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent allowed by law, Knight is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages, loss of data, lost profits, provider charges, or interruption arising from your use of Talk DAT!, and Knight's aggregate liability is limited to the amount you paid Knight for Talk DAT!, which is nothing. Nothing here limits liability that the law does not allow to be limited.
Ending
You can stop using Talk DAT! and delete your account whenever you like. Your licence ends if you materially break these terms; if it does, stop using and uninstall the software. The sections that by their nature should survive the end of the licence continue to apply.

Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to its conflict of law rules. The United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods does not apply. Any dispute arising out of these terms or the software will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Sacramento County, California, and both parties consent to the personal jurisdiction of those courts. Nothing here removes a consumer protection right, or the right to bring a claim in a small claims court, that cannot be waived under the law of your country or state of residence.
Changes to these terms
These terms may change as the product changes. The effective date at the top of this page is updated whenever they do. A change that materially reduces your rights will be announced in the product release notes as well as here, and continuing to use Talk DAT! after that date means the revised terms apply.
Reporting a security issue
Security reports and the current subprocessor list are covered by the security policy.
